This is absolutely gorgeous as well as heartbreaking. I love Blaine’s mother’s voice in this and how we see the relationship she has with her husband and her children. It breaks my heart so much how Blaine’s father basically manipulates her into changing to fit within his white perception of the world. And how she misses her culture and her world and how Blaine and his sister had to struggle, in different ways, because of it. I think sometimes growing up in California has made me a little ignorant of how much racism still exists and how rampant it is — I mean, I still get my share of racist comments, but I can’t even imagine how hard it would be to live in a place like Ohio where it isn’t as diverse. Honestly, I probably didn’t start to seriously notice racist comments until I went to college, which is in a predominantly white town, and it’s a little sad how casual and subtle racism can be in everyday life. =( But yeah, it just breaks my heart and this fic breaks my heart and the ending was so beautiful and hard and is kind of the first step into something and I can only hope that things get better from there, which is to say I totally wouldn’t mind more from this ‘verse. XP
