Summary: Patrick’s dead on his feet the night Toews walks in, toque pulled down over his ears and managing to rock the jacket and jeans despite the fact that he looks like he just rolled out of bed. Patrick’s filled out his order before Toews even opens his mouth, and this time Patrick scribbles the Hawks road run-down on a napkin he hands over with the cup. He scrawls ON THE HOUSE! on the cup even though he knows it’s going to come out of his paycheck. He doesn’t really care, though, when Toews looks at the cup and does a twitchy smile/scowl thing that absolutely delights Patrick.
Toews narrows his eyes. “Are you always this happy?”

Jonny blinks, and then Patrick translates. It figures the first thing Jonny’d learn in sign language is ‘fuck you’.

They do weirder, more avant-garde shit than he’s ever really up for on an intellectual level, but on an intellectual level modeling is mostly stupid. “It’s just some sweaters,” they tell him, so he gears up for wearing some sweaters while riding creepy neon reindeer or being buried face-down in artificial snow, because he knows how the fuckers at Nylon think.

The fuckers at Nylon apparently think it’s cool to waste a bunch of his time by hiring a photographer who doesn’t even start setting up until noon, and then he spends like six fucking years moving chairs around and then, finally, he says, “Where’s the model?” so Jonny sticks his book under his chair and gets up.

“Oh,” the photographer says, “hey. Cool. Can you run out and get me some coffee?”

“Uh,” Jonny says, “no? Then we’ll start even later.”

“Wait,” the guy says, shoving some ugly fucking Raggedy Andy blond curls off his face, “you? You’re the model?”
