  1. What is fan-fiction?
Fan-fiction refers to stories written about the characters and/or settings of an original work (book, TV series, etc.). Also called fanfiction, fanfic, fic.

  2. What is slash / femslash / yaoi / yuri?
Slash refers fics with same-sex pairings (usually refering to male/male). The name comes from the slash (/) between character names when denoting the pairing. Femslash is used to differentiate female slash. More info on slash @ wikipedia, including definition of chan-slash and real-person slash [RPS]. Yaoi is a Japanese term, similar to slash. Yuri is also a Japanese term, similar to femslash. I’m sure you can wikipedia the terms if you want to know more about the yaoi / yuri origins.

  3. When do you update your recs?
I try to update as often as possible. Depending on the time of year, it might be weeks before I update, since I’m a college student in a very demanding major. During the school year, I don’t have as much time to read as often as I’d like, so I obviously won’t be able to update as often. I’ve actually gotten into scheduling my updates now, so there are generally between 5-8 recs per day. I’m hoping to keep that up and maybe eventually get caught up! I tend to read a lot, so I have a backlog of recs to be posted. One day, I will catch up, then there will probably be less recs per day, but I’m trying to keep this updated daily.

  4. What’s with the pairing order (Harry/Draco VS Draco/Harry, etc.)?
Traditionally, the pairing order is based on the roles in the relationship — “top” and “bottom”. The first name refers to the “top” and the second name (after the slash) refers to the “bottom”. Generally, the way I order the names is based on their their role or, if it’s not explicitly stated in the fic, on who’s pursuing who — ex. Harry pursuing Draco ==> Harry/Draco. Draco pursuing Harry ==> Draco/Harry.
