(And at best, a bit high-maintenance.)

Title: The Observer Effect
Author: thingswithwings
Rating: NC-17 || Status: Complete
Summary: Carlos suspects, deep down, that this is a crucial aspect of the town’s strangeness, the way that people and objects change while watching, while being watched; that he could know everything about Night Vale if he could just know this.

Title: Second Date
Author: dee
Rating: PG-13 || Status: Complete
Summary: Cecil might have had an awful day, but at least Carlos is there when he gets home. Carlos, standing in Cecil’s apartment, wearing Cecil’s boxers, cooking in Cecil’s kitchen, making rather… amorous advances. Not that Cecil’s complaining, exactly, but… isn’t this all a bit forward for a second date?
That’s what it means, to be the Voice of Night Vale. To say so much, and know so little.

Title: Second Date
Author: thingswithwings
Rating: PG-13 || Status: Complete
Summary: Listeners, we are very lucky tonight to have a guest in the studio. Carlos, our local scientist and utterly beautiful investigator of strange phenomena is here with us. Carlos, would you like to say hi to everyone at home?
Carlos is shaking his head no, perhaps because he is too shy to go on the radio – isn’t that adorable, listeners? Anyway, Carlos is here to keep me company before we head out on our second date, the location and activities of which Carlos has kept secret from me, though I know I will be delighted by whatever he chooses for us to do, provided that it is within the bounds of municipal regulations on second dates.

Title: What We’ve Got Here
Author: Margo_Kim
Rating: PG-13 || Status: Complete
Summary: Carlos’s reaction to the first date involves a lot more anguished cries than Cecil’s, though to be fair, they’re only anguished cries of “Why did I do that, why did I say that, why am I allowed to interact with other people” so they’re still better than at least eighty percent of Night Vale’s late night wails.

Title: The Reconciliation of Science and Religion (or Lack Thereof)
Author: dee
Rating: PG-13 || Status: Complete
Summary: Carlos doesn’t know what Cecil is, but maybe it doesn’t matter. Also, Cecil’s show gets a Special Guest!
It’s not that Cecil’s bad-looking. Not exactly handsome, either, but, well. That’s Cecil: Carlos has never before met anyone so aptly described by negative space.

Title: There’s Probably a Word For It In Unmodified Sumerian
Author: patho
Rating: PG-13 || Status: Complete
Summary: It’s weirdly flattering, in a way, that Cecil can wax rhapsodic about his very cells. Carlos can empathize: every single one of his tests has shown that Cecil is just as human as he is, and yet he’s also absolutely not. Carlos knows he’s not, with the sort of bone-deep certainty he usually reserves for universal constants. Cecil’s not human, but he is, and Carlos finds he wants to shout it from the top of the radio tower. How wonderful this makes Cecil. How beautiful. How imperfectly and uniquely perfect.
He can’t help but wonder if this is how Cecil feels all the time. It’s…a little overwhelming.

Title: A Love Song For Schrödinger
Author: patho
Rating: PG-13 || Status: Complete
Summary: With his own two eyes Carlos has observed a house that empirically doesn’t exist. He’s never seen a quantum particle, but his computer models and lab readouts reassure him of their presence. Cecil – lovely and wonderful and strange Cecil – is comforting and solid in every way…except in Carlos’ peripheral vision, when his edges waver as though the lack of direct observation has left him unsure of what shape he should be.
It means absolutely nothing, to see a thing in Night Vale.

Title: All the Requisite Parts
Author: novembersmith
Rating: NC-17 || Status: Complete
Summary: A year and some change spent in Night Vale did wonders for one’s sense of perspective. No new appendages? No missing appendages? No blood, no pain, no demonic possession? Probably not worth worrying about.
But still. Best to narrow down the cause.

Title: (Nothing) Could Be Better
Author: novembersmith
Rating: NC-17 || Status: Complete
Summary: Carlos had thought, with a not inconsiderable amount of pride, that he was no longer surprised by the strangeness that Night Vale had to throw at him. In fact, he was more often surprised by the rare normal events than the reverse. Which completely invalidated the words ‘normal’ and ‘abnormal,’ but anyway—
