OMG! This fic seriously brings me back to my EXTREME love of Hikaru No Go and my love of Akira and Hikaru and OMG AkiHika / HikaAki is my OTP like for realz! *LOVELOVELOVELOVE*

It’s been a while since I’ve read any HnG, but I’m always struck by the relationship between Hikaru and Akira’s relationship, even in the fics where they’re clearly NOT in a relationship (yet), there’s still that something there, that we got from the anime / manga and yeah. *hearts*

The cover photo is a shot of Akira and Hikaru heading out the door of the Institute. It must have been taken the day of Hikaru’s exhibition match, he realizes. Hikaru is grabbing him by the wrist, and Akira’s heart swoops straight out of his chest before he realizes that they haven’t, crazily, been caught holding hands like children. The camera angle is such that what should be completely innocent is suggestive. Hikaru’s hand is obscured so that it looks like their fingers are entangled. The expression he wears as he looks back is one Akira sees out every day, but taken out of context it takes Akira’s breath away. The curve of his lips; the way he’s tugging hard on Akira’s arm with easy familiarity, his eyes shining; the way he’s looking straight at Akira. Who is looking straight back at him.

Seriously, the image of the photo is so lovely! They only have eyes for each other! GAH! And the article itself is just kind of awesome, haha.

…Touya wants to close his eyes but he can’t stop looking at everything, and Hikaru keeps nudging him and running his hands all over, and Touya doesn’t want to love him, he doesn’t, but he does and he does so much.

And GOD, parts like this just make my heart melt! *lovelovelove*

And then, there was the end part of the article:

Only later, when the galleys for this article are assembled, is the full story evident: Touya’s story, one that cannot unfold on its own without placing Shindou’s beside it. Shindou may have taken the Go World by storm as all eyes were fixed on Touya, but here, at least, is one pair of eyes that have been focused on him since the beginning.

Oh man! I love it! Their lives are so intertwined and of course Touya was always focused on Hikaru. *heart*

When he tries to talk to Waya about it, Waya naturally gets it all wrong.

“So you like him.”

“No,” says Hikaru firmly. “I don’t like him, like him!” Waya is looking confused, so Hikaru tries to explain again; only he gets tangled up somewhere between “Touya” and “touching” and it comes out like a spectacularly clumsy error on a goban.

“Only I’m not gay so it’s not like that,” he ends awkwardly.

Waya is trying to be gentle, Hikaru can tell, the way you might with a mental patient. “But Touya thinks you are.”

“No. Maybe. He might.”

“Because you can’t stop touching him.”

“But only accidentally!”

“Accidentally all the time.”

“But not like that!”

“Except that he thinks it’s like that.”

“Yes!” says Hikaru triumphantly, relieved to be understood at last.

This fic is just so CUTE! I love how Shindou is all crisis-y over Touya maybe liking him that way and the Shindou/Touya interaction and GAHHH! I’ve seriously re-read this fic a bazillion times because I love Touya and I love Shindou and I just love them together, and they are so awesomely cute in this fic. Seriously, if I could just quote this whole fic, I so would! There’s just too many awesome parts that my brain can’t handle it!

And then it’s like a thousand Go stones landing in his stomach at once, and Hikaru wants to keep Touya like that forever. Not just as a rival thing but as a you-and-me thing. He wants to make it official.

He wants to do something crazy, like run his hand down Touya’s perfectly straight back and keep it at his waist, right now, in public, so everybody can see it. So that everybody can see Shindou Hikaru’s hand on Touya Akira’s waist and know that this is how they are, the two of them, how they always will be.

THIS PART is like, my favorite part. I LOVE Touya and Shindou and their awesome relationship and I totally need to watch Hikaru no Go a bazillion more times because HnG is JUST THAT AWESOME.
